Microsoft is reportedly training salespeople to talk down OpenAI and Anthropic | TechCrunch

Microsoft is reportedly coaching its sales team to aggressively downplay competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, according to a Bloomberg report on an internal strategy session.
The key tension is that these rivals are also the very companies whose models Microsoft has long resold or integrated into products like Copilot, Word, and Excel.
After dropping the exclusivity clause in its partnership with OpenAI this April, Microsoft now faces a more complex dynamic: it competes directly with the same vendors whose technology it once depended on.
The internal messaging appears aimed at convincing enterprise customers that buying a full end-to-end system from Microsoft is more efficient and cost-effective than assembling pieces from multiple AI providers.
