Granite Switch 4.1.1 Delivers Adapter Updates Like Software Patches

Granite Switch 4.1.1 is a patch release following the 4.1 launch of IBM‘s modular Switch architecture. As with a software patch, it is fully backwards compatible with 4.1, requires no migration, and ships incremental improvements under the hood. The two main changes are an updated Granite Speech ASR model and an updated Decision adapter in granitelib-core.
The updated Speech ASR model adds multilingual speech-to-text across 10 languages with native punctuation and capitalization, so transcripts are ready for downstream models without an extra formatting pass. The updated Decision adapter shows improved overall performance on the Jev Decision Index test set.
What the authors highlight is not just the new capabilities but the speed of the release: apart from training the new ASR model and Decision adapter, nothing was recomputed. The base model is untouched, and users compose the latest adapters they want and deploy them on a single endpoint. This pattern is intended to extend beyond IBM-provided patch releases. The team is working on tutorials and an Adapter SDK so developers and third-party providers can build their own adapters, iterate on versions, test features, and ship updates the way software is shipped. Until then, the post points readers to the latest models and the Speech-to-Decisions demo, which exercises the new multilingual and punctuation capabilities.
