Anthropic commits $150M to Genesis Mission for U.S. science agencies

Anthropic announced a $150 million, three-year commitment to the Genesis Mission, a U.S. federal initiative to accelerate scientific and technological discovery with AI. The funding expands Anthropic‘s existing work with the U.S. Department of Energy, which began last December, and will make Claude available to more than 15 federal agencies, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation. The announcement was made at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in Washington, DC.
The commitment is aimed at researchers at federal agencies and national laboratories working on some of the world’s most difficult scientific problems. Over the next three years, Anthropic will provide Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects; partner with agencies and national laboratories on administration priorities such as fusion energy and quantum computing; and provide training, onboarding, and technical support to scientists on mission projects, including help for agencies new to the mission to get their first projects running.
Anthropic frames the Genesis Mission funding as part of a broader push to support scientific research. Earlier this year it launched Claude Science, an AI workbench integrating the tools and packages researchers most commonly use, opened 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats for academic scientists, expanded its AI for Science program for researchers on high-impact projects, and began a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification for AI agents to safely operate lab instruments.
