AI coding company Warp has launched Warp Factories, an out-of-the-box infrastructure layer for building and operating AI software factories. The software factory model—an agent loop built around traditional software development stages—has become a popular way for companies to reorganize engineering for the AI era, but implementing it from scratch requires significant infrastructure work. Warp Factories aims to remove that burden by pre-building the architecture and making many difficult decisions for the user.

The system is built on the standard phases of software development: triage, specification, implementation, review, and verification. Any of these steps can be automated through agents, but users retain control over which coding models and harnesses to use—the system works equally well with Codex or Claude Code. It integrates with ticketing systems like Linear and Jira, and messaging platforms like Slack and Teams, to fit into existing workflows. Beyond code generation, Warp Factories provides management tools to track factory performance, including comparing metrics across different agent configurations and monitoring overall token spend. It also supports self-improvement loops that automate parts of the management process itself.

According to Warp CEO Zack Lloyd, the target market is smaller companies that lack the resources to develop such a system from the ground up. While Stripe and Ramp have publicly built their own internal factory systems, Warp Factories is designed as a turnkey solution. Lloyd emphasizes that running agents in the cloud, steering them, bringing work into local environments, setting up shared memory, and cross-agent evals constitute a huge infrastructure undertaking—all of which Warp Factories handles out of the box.

The system is not intended to replace software engineers. Lloyd reports that in his own experience, Warp automates roughly 30–35% of tasks on a weekly basis, and he expects that number to rise as models, context, and harnesses improve. The remaining work still requires human oversight and collaboration with the agentic workforce.
