Twitch Default Opt-In for Amazon AI Training Draws Backlash

Twitch now allows Amazon to use creators’ streaming content to train generative AI models, with creators automatically opted in unless they manually change settings.

This change sparked immediate backlash from the Twitch community, who see it as a unilateral surrender of their content.

During a live stream, Twitch Chief Product Officer Mike Minton acknowledged that if it were opt-in, few would participate, justifying the default opt-in approach.

Head of Community Mary Kish noted that other platforms like Meta also train on public user content, and that offering opt-out reflects community feedback.

To opt out, users can go to channel settings, select security and privacy, and toggle off the option labeled ‘training for generative AI.’
