OpenAI announced it will spend $750 billion on infrastructure through 2030, a 25% increase from its earlier estimate, as its Stargate project appears stalled.

The first major investment is a $20 billion data center campus in Georgia called Project Camellia, spanning 1,400 acres and drawing up to 3.2 GW of power.

OpenAI will pay full infrastructure and electric-service costs. Georgia Power received approval for 9,885 MW of new capacity, with most coming from natural gas (5.8 GW), plus solar and batteries.

The fossil fuel additions will more than double Georgia Power’s natural gas fleet. OpenAI receives a 50% property tax abatement for 15 years.

The company recently hired Brett Mayo from xAI to lead data center construction; xAI’s Colossus data center has faced lawsuits over unpermitted natural gas turbines and air quality issues.
