Netflix launches AI Discover tab for mood-based recommendations

Netflix announced that it is rolling out a new “AI Discover” tab, an experimental space where users can try new ways to find something to watch. The first feature under the tab gives recommendations based on the user’s current mood, driven by curated themes that include clips from shows and movies. Theme options include “something light,” “scare me,” “family movie night,” “quick watches,” and more, combining mood, viewing preferences, available time, and new or trending titles.
Once a user picks a theme, they see matching recommendations and can either choose more specific themes to keep narrowing the search or pick “something different” to start over. Each recommendation has a “Tune Your Recommendations” button next to “Play” and “My List,” letting users save titles they like or exclude ones they never want suggested again. Netflix says the feature is powered by a new intelligence layer it has been building that responds in real-time to what users tell the platform and keeps learning.
The company describes AI Discover as its “test kitchen” for discovery, saying user feedback will help decide which features to keep or improve before bringing them to the main Netflix experience. The rollout starts in the U.S. for users who watch Netflix in English on supported TVs, with plans to expand to more users in the coming weeks. Eligible users will see a “Discover” button with a red gem icon and a “New” label in the top navigation bar on their TV. Netflix frames the addition as a way to make its growing library easier to navigate and shift discovery away from endless scrolling toward a more personalized, AI-powered experience.
