Meta‘s AI assistant app Muse is now available on Mac, where it can interact with files, messages, calendar, notes, and mail inside their native applications. The Mac release follows Muse‘s launch on mobile and web earlier this month, when it quickly rose to the top of the U.S. App Store charts. In a launch tweet, Alexandr Wang said Muse for Mac is here and “your agent can now get stuff done right on your computer,” emphasizing that users control what it can access and that it always asks before doing anything sensitive.

As on other platforms, Mac users grant access to apps and data on an opt-in basis, and Meta says the app will always ask for approval before performing sensitive actions. Mark Zuckerberg announced the Mac app on X with the note that “the team is shipping fast.”

The desktop launch comes amid intensifying competition among consumer-facing AI agents, which many in the industry believe will be the future of computing. The article connects this movement to disruption of the app industry, software-as-a-service businesses, and possibly hardware such as the iPhone. Besides Muse, all major players offer consumer-facing agentic AI. Other agents have also gained traction by letting people use AI agents through text messages; Poke, one of the first breakout hits in this space, exited to Cognition in July. The newest assistant often discussed in tech circles, Instinct, is said to be raising more funds at a $10 billion valuation. The immediate contest is consumer market share, and both Muse and Instinct rolled out voice calling this week as they rush to ship features quickly.
