Meta is reportedly developing a new smart glasses model, code-named Luna, that omits cameras entirely. The Information reports that Luna instead relies on six built-in microphones and a side button to activate Meta‘s AI chatbot and its Muse consumer agent, letting users talk to the assistant without the recording hardware that has drawn privacy criticism. The device could be unveiled as soon as Meta Connect, the company’s annual hardware/developer event in Menlo Park next week. TechCrunch reached out to Meta for comment.

The move follows complaints that Meta‘s camera-equipped glasses function as ‘pervert glasses,’ despite the products being more commercially successful than rival entrants. The decision addresses a persistent point of friction in the smart glasses market, where usability, cost, and privacy concerns continue to weigh on adoption. Meta‘s Reality Labs division, which builds the glasses line, is still losing substantial money, according to its April earnings report.
