Introducing ChatGPT for Financial Services

OpenAI is introducing ChatGPT for Financial Services, a tailored ChatGPT Work experience that pairs built-in financial data with GPT-6 Astra‘s reasoning to support research, financial modeling, and client-facing document creation. The product was shaped through a design partnership with Morgan Stanley and Evercore, which helped OpenAI identify where it can solve the biggest operational challenges for financial institutions and which solutions would help bankers in daily work.

The product targets investment banking and equity research first. Reliable data access and high-quality artifact creation surfaced as the biggest pain points for partner teams, and OpenAI says its work with partners will inform post-training, product improvements, and expansion into other financial services categories.

Built-in premium data from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase covers earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals, private companies, and more. This data is indexed and hosted on OpenAI infrastructure, which the company says enables higher accuracy and granular citations that let bankers trace figures and claims back to their sources. Teams can start using these datasets immediately without separate contracts or connectors. OpenAI plans to post-train its models to find, interpret, and use these datasets with the depth expected of experienced analysts.

For firms with existing data subscriptions, OpenAI is working with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva, and Moody’s on shared sign-in and entitlement integrations, so providers can recognize users through their ChatGPT sign-in and enable automatic access to data they are already entitled to. The company has also optimized some of the most-used MCP connectors in financial services, including S&P Global and FactSet, through automated evaluation and iteration, with a broader ecosystem of 50+ connectors including Datasite, Box, Preqin, and Intapp.

The product ships with GPT-6 Astra natively, which OpenAI describes as state of the art across three core capabilities for financial services: information retrieval, financial reasoning, and artifact generation. GPT-6 Astra can navigate figures, tables, and supporting notes in financial documents; run financial analysis and draw conclusions; and synthesize results into documents, spreadsheets, and slides. Built-in capabilities include researching across multiple sources, tracing figures across different periods, interpreting annotations in public data, and building interactive charts and visualizations. Newer models will be available out of the box as they are released.

Administrators can publish Excel, Word, and PowerPoint templates through a dedicated admin page, so teams can turn analysis into valuation models, research notes, and pitchbooks in their firm’s format and style.

On the security and governance side, ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on ChatGPT Enterprise’s SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, and role-based access controls. Business data is not used to train models by default, is encrypted at rest and in transit, and admins can configure workspace retention. Compliance teams can export supported workspace logs through the OpenAI Compliance Platform into existing audit and investigation workflows. Firms can manage access to skills and apps by role, enable or disable supported app read/write actions, and create multiple workspaces to enforce information barriers.

OpenAI positions the product as one way it serves financial customers, while acknowledging that a range of solutions will be needed. Financial firms and developers can also use the OpenAI API to build specialized applications. ChatGPT for Financial Services is available to eligible financial institutions.
