Google is expanding Google Maps‘ Ask Maps feature with new agentic capabilities that let users order food, book hotels, and find event tickets directly through conversational queries. The company also introduced Personal Intelligence, which lets Ask Maps draw on a user’s Gmail and Calendar to personalize responses, alongside a live transit widget for real-time delay updates. These additions reflect Google’s goal of turning Maps from a navigation tool into an assistant that can complete real-world tasks.

With food ordering, users can ask a question like ‘Where can I order vegan avocado toast and an oat milk latte near home?’ and Ask Maps will surface nearby restaurants. After selecting a restaurant, tapping ‘Order online’ places the order through supported platforms such as Square, Toast, or Uber Eats. The items are added to a cart, and users can add more items before paying on the partner platform.

For hotels, users can describe their trip, such as ‘For next weekend’s conference in downtown Miami, find me a decently priced, top-rated hotel with an artsy vibe within walking distance from a gym and restaurants.’ Ask Maps compares prices and checks availability, then presents a list of options. Users click through to the partner’s website to book. Similarly, users can ask about comedy shows or live music near work and receive options with ticket purchase links.

Personal Intelligence gives Ask Maps access to emails and calendar data to answer questions about upcoming flights, dinner reservations, and hotels, such as ‘What time will I land in Vancouver on my upcoming flight?’ or ‘Can you recommend where to eat and what to do near my hotel?’ It is off by default. Ask Maps also now remembers prior conversations, so users can ask ‘What activities had you suggested for my trip to Seattle?’ and continue planning from where they left off.

The new agentic features are rolling out to users in the U.S., while Personal Intelligence and the live transit widget are rolling out to all markets where Ask Maps is available.
