Google Gemini app surpasses 1 billion monthly active users

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the Gemini app surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, making it one of Google’s fastest-growing products. It is the 14th Google product to reach this milestone, keeping pace with OpenAI’s ChatGPT which hit 1 billion monthly users in June. The milestone refers specifically to the standalone Gemini app, not including AI users from other Google products like Search AI Mode.
Google has been integrating Gemini across its ecosystem, including Search, Workspace, Android, and the standalone app. Usage data reveals that 63% of Gemini users engage with the assistant via voice, and the app generates over 150 million images daily. Additionally, Gemini has more than 100 million active users on iOS.
The company also launched Gemini 3.5 Flash, a new model designed to improve coding and autonomous AI-agent tasks. The announcement comes after Google’s Q2 2026 earnings call, where it reported over 950 million monthly users and daily active users tripling year-over-year. Ahead of the Made by Google event, more Gemini-powered features are expected for Pixel devices.
