Google Cloud Gets Dutch DPIA Approval for EU Public Sector

Public sector organizations in the European Union require strong data protection guarantees before adopting cloud services. The Dutch government’s DPIA process assessed Google Cloud‘s privacy posture to address these concerns. A rigorous evaluation by SLM Rijk, the Dutch strategic vendor management agency, confirmed that there are no known high data protection risks when recommended measures are implemented. This milestone enables the Dutch central public sector to use Google Cloud with a clear privacy-assessment path.
Google Cloud collaborated with SLM Rijk to complete a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) that addressed all key issues raised. The assessment included a summary of measures to mitigate risks, concluding that Google Cloud‘s privacy foundation is strong for public sector use. This builds on a previous DPIA for Google Workspace, which already affirmed safe use across Dutch public sector and educational institutions.
The practical implication is that Dutch central public sector prospects and customers can now confidently evaluate and adopt Google Cloud for modernization and digital transformation. The outcome also provides a strong foundation for public sector organizations across the Netherlands and beyond to meet privacy, security, and compliance requirements while benefiting from cloud innovation and scalability.
