Google allows removal of visible watermark from AI generations

Google announced it will allow users to remove the visible watermark from AI-generated images, videos, and songs, while preserving the invisible SynthID watermark and C2PA metadata for transparency.
The toggle will be available in Gemini, Google‘s video editor Flow, and eventually Search.
Josh Woodward, VP for Gemini, stated the change balances creative control with safety, noting that visible watermarks often hinder professional and creative use.
The feature applies to Google‘s Nano Banana, Omni, and Lyria models and rolls out in the coming days via Settings > Media Watermark.
Separately, Google is open sourcing a library called Credentio to let developers embed local AI-content validation.
This move follows Anthropic’s decision to add watermarks to Claude outputs for EU compliance.
