Facebook launches ‘Your Algorithm’ for natural-language feed controls

Meta announced the launch of “Your Algorithm” on Facebook, an AI-powered feature that lets users influence what appears in Feed and Reels by describing their preferences in natural language. The tool, which first launched on Instagram, gives people a more direct way to steer content recommendations instead of relying only on automated ranking and recommendations.

With “Your Algorithm,” users can tell Facebook what topics and content they want to see more or less often, and the platform reflects those preferences in its recommendations in real time. Facebook has also updated its three-dot menu so users can open the tool directly from a post or tap “Interested” and “Not interested” to indicate whether particular content matches their preferences. Meta says the platform may ask follow-up questions to better understand what users liked or disliked, allowing more detailed feedback that helps refine future recommendations.

The launch is part of Meta’s broader effort to give users more influence over their social media experiences as AI increasingly shapes content discovery. Meta frames the change as a shift away from traditional recommendation systems and toward the kind of user-driven personalization common on streaming services. “Your Algorithm” builds on earlier Meta personalization efforts: Instagram introduced it in June, expanding customization across Feed and Explore after launching it for Reels in December 2025, and Threads has a related feature called “Dear Algo” that lets users influence recommended content.
