ChatGPT gets more visual with new Intelligent UI interface

OpenAI is rolling out a new ChatGPT interface called Intelligent UI alongside a new GPT-6 model. The update shifts ChatGPT away from text-only replies by embedding interactive visuals directly into conversations, including tappable buttons, task-specific calculators, interactive charts, and editable graphs. OpenAI says the goal is to make learning complex topics easier, and the company demonstrated a range of examples: diagrams explaining how an airplane wing generates lift, recipe visuals, a bicycle mechanics explanation, a map for a multi-day hiking trip, and a personal savings calculator.
Aarush Selvan, a product manager at OpenAI, acknowledged that ChatGPT has predominantly been a text-based interface and said the company wants to help users get things done — from planning a recipe or a trip to learning something new — because the most helpful answers aren’t just text. The feature is customizable: users who prefer fewer visuals in responses will be able to dial them back, similar to other aspects of ChatGPT‘s personality.
Intelligent UI rolls out globally Wednesday with GPT-6 for Pro, Plus, Business, and Enterprise users, and arrives Thursday for users of the free and lower-cost Go tiers.
