Ben Bernanke joins Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Trust as independent trustee

Anthropic has appointed Dr. Ben Bernanke, former Chair of the Federal Reserve and Nobel Prize-winning economist, to its Long-Term Benefit Trust (LTBT).

The LTBT is an independent governance body separate from Anthropic‘s management and investors, designed to hold the company accountable to its public-benefit mission: developing advanced AI responsibly for humanity’s long-term good.

The core tension here is that AI companies must balance commercial incentives with societal impact, and a traditional corporate board may not be structurally equipped to prioritize long-term risks over short-term profits.

Bernanke’s addition explicitly addresses the economic dimension of that challenge.
