AI startup Relay shuts down, founder joins Google Chrome team

Relay, an AI-powered workflow automation startup founded in 2021, is shutting down. Founder and CEO Jacob Bank is rejoining Google as VP of Product for Google Chrome, along with some staff.
Paying customer access ends September 14; free users lost access August 15.
Bank previously led product for Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Chat after Google acquired his scheduling startup Timeful in 2015.
Relay automated tasks like document drafting, copyediting, and project management.
Bank stated he plans to bring AI experiences to more people via Chrome, calling it “a perfect place to collaborate with agents.
” The move follows Google’s broader AI integration push, including Gemini in Chrome as an optional assistant and in search.
