Airbnb’s AI travel agent is coming in the first half of 2027

Airbnb has committed to launching its own AI travel agent in the first half of 2027, providing new details in its Q3 shareholder letter and earnings call. The company had previously teased the feature but had only said to expect it within the next year. CEO Brian Chesky framed the agent as a deliberate departure from general-purpose chatbots, arguing that travel planning is aspirational and that people enjoy the research and anticipation phase. He cited that 80% of travelers say they enjoy spending time researching trips, and noted that people want to browse photos, compare homes, and make decisions together with travel companions.

The agent is being built as a custom AI-native experience rather than a text-heavy chat interface. According to Chesky, it draws from a library of travel-specific interface components—maps, photos, comparisons, calendars, and itineraries—and composes them in real time to match what a guest is looking for. He described the result as feeling a little bit like generative UI, offering the right interface at the right time for a specific travel need. Airbnb says its nearly 20 years of experience connecting hosts and guests is informing the agent’s design, incorporating insights about how people both book and host on the platform.

The agent is also intended to extend beyond booking. Airbnb says it will help guests throughout their trip, including changing a reservation, resolving payment issues, getting refunds, rebooking, and accessing 24-hour safety support—tasks the company argues an outside agent could not easily do on its own. Over time, Airbnb expects the agent to cover not just homes and hotels but also services and experiences, two areas that have become a larger focus following the company’s redesign last year.

The release date was announced alongside strong third-quarter earnings. Revenue grew 19% to $4.87 billion, beating Wall Street estimates, and the company raised its 2026 revenue growth forecast to high teens from mid-teens. Chesky told analysts that Airbnb is back in growth mode, noting that Q3 was its fastest revenue growth in more than three years and calling it rare for a marketplace of its size to reaccelerate growth.
