Meta acquires AI coding startup Conductor

Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that helps software engineers run multiple agents in parallel workspaces to work on separate, compartmentalized parts of a project. Axios originally reported the news, and Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced it on the company’s blog, teasing “big, crazy plans for the next interface” and promising something new by early next year. Holtz also said he looked forward to working with Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and Superintelligence Labs product head Nat Friedman. Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to provide deal details.

Conductor, founded in 2024, launched its core product last summer. It deploys agentic teams in the cloud, locally, or via a user’s phone, drawing the agents from external labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI rather than building them in-house. Holtz said Conductor‘s core features will keep working until early next year, with the exception of its cloud service, which shuts down November 20; afterward the company will begin deleting user cloud data.

The acquisition is part of Meta‘s broader push to catch up in AI services. In August, Meta launched Muse Code, its own coding agent, and the company recently reported that Muse agents have surpassed 10 million users. Meta has also made several other AI-related acquisitions over the past year, including Moltbook, a viral agent platform.
