Bank of America warns against sharing banking passwords with AI assistants

Bank of America sent customers an email titled “Protecting your finances in the Al World” warning them never to share banking credentials with another person or outside service, including AI-enabled tools or agents that offer to act on their behalf.

The bank warns that sharing credentials with an AI assistant could let it take actions on finances without the customer’s knowledge, cause the bank to lock the account if it suspects unauthorized access, or expose credentials if the assistant has a security flaw.

The warning arrives as banks and payment providers are still exploring how AI agents fit into finance, including agentic payments where agents autonomously buy at the best price or time, while reportedly struggling with unauthorized agents accessing customer money.

Bank of America did not respond to a request for comment, but its email stresses that customers who share credentials remain responsible for any resulting activity under most account agreements.
