1Password for Agents lets AI agents log in without seeing passwords

1Password has launched 1Password for Agents, a platform that lets users authorize AI agents to log into their personal accounts without the agent ever seeing the credentials. The flow works by having the agent send a unique digital key to 1Password to confirm its identity, then sending the user an alert that they can personally approve. After approval, 1Password signs the agent in, filling in credentials on the assistant’s behalf so it can complete the task.
The launch lands as U.S. banks report detecting agentic activity inside customer accounts, according to Axios. Bankers interviewed by Axios described the situation as “horrifying” because most banks cannot determine whether the activity is tied to a user request. A Chase spokesperson also advised customers not to give usernames and passwords to anyone. 1Password says its service supports agents including Claude Duet from Anthropic, OpenAI’s Dots or ChatGPT Work, Grok Bot, Meta’s Muse, and Town’s agents, and it is working to expand the list.
