Replit CEO says company is no longer working with Anthropic

At TechCrunch Disrupt, Replit CEO Amjad Masad said the AI coding platform is no longer working with Anthropic. He cited cost, partnership, and performance as reasons, adding: “I think ChatGPT is better now.” Replit uses an internal benchmark and also publishes a public benchmark; according to Masad, OpenAI‘s Sol and Astra consistently perform better on building vibe-coded applications from scratch. Replit had announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, but had never previously indicated that it was no longer with Anthropic. Replit sells a cloud-based development platform where users build and deploy apps in the browser, and under the Anthropic partnership it used Claude models to run the platform; that partnership was said to have helped grow revenue significantly.
The announcement drew pushback. One person familiar with the Anthropic–Replit partnership, who asked not to be named, told TechCrunch the partnership was still in place. TechCrunch noted evidence that Replit was using Anthropic products as recently as September: a September blog post cites Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as models running in Replit Agent’s production environment. TechCrunch said it reached out to Replit for clarification and would update the story.
Masad also shared growth figures onstage, saying enterprise contracts were about 2% of revenue last year and about 15% this year, with more than 50% of revenue now coming from B2B. He declined to share ARR numbers. On AI safety, Masad said agents, like humans, need a supportive environment, and that a proper “habitat” for agents includes orchestration, error recovery, safety, security, sandboxing, networking, identity, and authorization; once that is solved, he said, AI can be deployed safely.
