OpenAI is bringing voice-based agentic features to ChatGPT‘s mobile app, letting subscribers trigger multi-step workflows by voice. Plus and Pro users can use a new Work tab on their phone to draft documents or emails, summarize Slack messages, build sites, create presentations, use the cloud browser, and access areas such as finances in ChatGPT. Free and Go users will get plugins and connected apps instead. The update also enriches text output in voice conversations, makes it easier to switch between text and voice, and allows starting a task on mobile and resuming it on desktop.

OpenAI frames this as extending capabilities that previously landed on desktop. In July, the company launched its conversational model GPT-Live and later integrated it into the desktop app so users could complete tasks in the Work tab or build apps in the Codex tab by voice. This rollout brings analogous functionality to mobile at a time when more users are issuing complex commands to AI assistants by voice.

The announcement notes that Anthropic recently simplified handoffs between mobile and desktop and merged its Cowork and Chat interface. OpenAI, by contrast, is keeping chat and workspaces separate in the mobile experience.
