At its Made On YouTube event, YouTube announced two AI-powered additions to YouTube Music aimed at improving music and podcast discovery. The first, Ask Music, is a conversational tool built into the app that lets users describe what they want to hear in everyday language instead of searching for individual songs or artists. It works across the company’s catalog of more than 300 million songs, including official recordings, remixes, live performances, covers, and DJ sets. Users can ask it to build custom listening queues, explore an artist’s motivations, or dig into music history. For example, a listener can request a mix based on the tracks that inspired a particular song, or ask who played bass on a recording and get details about its creation.

The second feature, Your Podcast Lineup, is a personalized AI-generated audio guide for podcast discovery. It addresses the problem that there are more podcasts than most people have time for, and even devoted listeners struggle to keep up with new episodes. The guide will appear on the podcast page in the YouTube Music app and, each week, deliver a short spoken preview of recommended shows with an explanation of why they might appeal to the listener, then move directly into suggested episodes.

These updates follow Spotify‘s recent move in a similar direction, where personal podcasts are generated with AI based on a user’s interests and prompts. They are also part of YouTube’s broader use of AI across its services; last year, YouTube Music experimented with AI-powered music hosts that provide stories, fan trivia, and commentary tied to what users are listening to. Both new features are coming soon to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide.
