Starting today, Claude Cowork and chat are one Claude. The previous separation is gone: a single conversation can begin with a quick question or a full task, such as a report due at noon, and Claude continues working after the user closes the laptop. The change is rolling out to Pro and Max plans over the next few weeks, with more plans to follow.

The same consolidation applies to output types. Claude Docs and Claude Slides are new, and Claude Design now runs inside conversations. Asking for a document starts a co-writing session; asking for a presentation produces draft slides that can be edited, presented from Claude, or downloaded as PowerPoint or PDF. All three are in beta on paid plans, and Enterprise admins choose when to enable them. Standalone Claude Design continues to work as before. The stated reason is that users found the separate Cowork and Design spaces confusing: they had to decide where a task belonged, and work started in one place did not carry into the other. Now Claude decides what a task needs and exposes those capabilities from any conversation, using the context, skills, and connectors already present. The post includes an example from Andrew Keller, Senior Economist, describing Claude pulling cases from a legal research database, analyzing them, downloading additional relevant cases, and storing them in a folder.

The report-and-deck scenario is concrete. A user asks what moved in a pipeline, then asks Claude to write it the usual way, flag anything that slipped, and put highlights into five slides for leadership. If something is unclear, Claude asks before continuing. Progress can be checked from a phone, and by the time the user reaches a desk the report exists as a doc with teammate notes and the slides are ready. Because both come from the same conversation, the slides already match the report. Users can edit a line, leave a comment on a slide, share via one link, select an element to move it, and schedule the report for every Monday so Claude starts it without being asked.

Behavioral guardrails stay explicit. By default, Claude asks before taking an action; users can switch to a mode where Claude keeps working and only checks in when something needs a closer look. The user keeps final say. Existing Cowork users retain their chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills, while chat users do not need to change anything. The rollout happens automatically in the Claude app on web, desktop, and mobile for existing and new Pro and Max users; Team and Free plans follow soon, and Enterprise admins are notified at least 30 days before any change.
