OpenAI announced new electronic health record (EHR) integration with Epic, allowing healthcare organizations to bring authorized patient context into ChatGPT for Healthcare.

A complementary Healthcare Public Data plugin provides structured access to nine official public healthcare sources including PubMed, DailyMed, CMS Coverage, and ClinicalTrials.gov.

Clinicians can ask natural language questions such as “What has changed since this patient’s last visit?” and receive summaries with citations back to the chart.

Two integration modes are offered: EHR context within ChatGPT and ChatGPT embedded in the EHR workflow. In physician evaluations across 27 clinical use cases and 4,363 ratings, 99.

1% of responses were rated safe. Separate evaluations on large U.S. healthcare datasets showed over 93% of responses had “good” or better accuracy across five connected data sources.

The capabilities are part of ChatGPT for Healthcare, which provides a governed workspace with HIPAA-compliant workflows, role-based access, and audit logs.

Business teams can also use ChatGPT Work and Codex for reporting, analysis, and software development, with plugins for enterprise systems like SharePoint, Google Drive, and Salesforce.
