OpenAI has launched commercial operations in Brazil, establishing a local team in São Paulo to work with businesses, developers, researchers, and public institutions. The move reflects Brazil‘s rapid AI adoption: it is one of ChatGPT‘s three largest markets by weekly active users, with users nearly doubling over the past year and sending approximately 215 million messages daily. Brazil ranks second globally by number of OpenAI API developers and is Codex‘s largest market in Latin America; weekly Codex users in Brazil have grown more than elevenfold since early 2026. ChatGPT Enterprise seats in the country increased fivefold year over year, placing Brazil among OpenAI‘s ten largest business-customer markets.

An independent study by RegLab, funded by OpenAI, estimates AI could add nearly R$1 trillion to Brazil‘s economy by 2030. New country-level data shows that 35% of classified messages from individual ChatGPT accounts in Brazil were work-related (versus 30% globally), with 53% of those asking ChatGPT to complete tasks such as drafting proposals, analyzing information, writing code, or creating marketing materials. OpenAI is partnering with local organizations including Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica, Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada, Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade de São Paulo, legal AI unicorn ENTER, and micro-business support organization Estímulo. The company also held its first OpenAI para Devs roadshow in four Brazilian cities, culminating in a hackathon where the winning team built a prototype that helps micro and small businesses navigate public procurement opportunities using Codex.

Brazil has the world’s highest rate of ChatGPT Images use and ranks among the five largest markets for voice and dictation. Weekly voice users in Brazil doubled over the past year. OpenAI held its first Creators Day in São Paulo, featuring local artists like Alcione, Dell Nunes, Paulo Aguiar, and Thaís Martan. The company frames this as a long-term commitment to supporting the Brazilian ecosystem and turning AI adoption into economic and social value.
