Snapchat stops rewarding fully AI-generated Spotlight content

Snapchat announced it will no longer reward fully AI-generated videos in its Spotlight feature, adjusting recommendation systems to prioritize human-made content.

The company stated that Spotlight should remain a place for authentic creativity from real people, though creators may still use Snapchat‘s own AI tools to enhance or edit content.

This update follows Snapchat‘s April indication that users would see less AI-generated content and aligns with broader industry pushback against low-quality AI content (“AI slop”).

LinkedIn recently added a report button for posts that seem AI-generated; Substack introduced a tool to detect AI-written newsletters; Meta removed an Instagram AI photo modification feature after backlash; and YouTube tightened monetization policies to exclude inauthentic, generic AI content.

Separately, Snapchat also implemented new content controls for users aged 13–15, limiting Spotlight sharing to followers only, to prevent doxxing.
