Synthesia launches AI role-play training platform for enterprise coaching

Synthesia, known for AI-generated corporate training videos, has launched Roleplay Sessions, an interactive product where employees practice high-stakes conversations—such as sales pitches, performance reviews, and customer complaints—with an AI avatar that responds, challenges, and scores them against a rubric.
The launch positions Synthesia less as an avatar company and more as a performance-management platform.
CEO Victor Riparbelli argues that traditional video training, while better than text, still falls short because real learning comes from practice and feedback.
The product uses Synthesia‘s proprietary avatar and voice technology alongside OpenAI’s reasoning engine, adding a layer of rubrics, analytics, and performance data.
Early commercial customers include a top-three European company by market cap, a Fortune 100 company, and one of the world’s largest recruitment firms.
The most popular use cases are sales training and leadership soft-skills practice. Customers can build their own training programs or use Synthesia‘s consultants.
Roleplay is currently enterprise-only, but Synthesia plans to expand to small businesses, prosumers, and educational institutions within months as inference costs drop.
The product is the first release under a broader “Sessions” platform that will eventually include formats like job interviews and candidate screening.
Riparbelli sees this as the next phase of enterprise AI adoption, where companies demand measurable business outcomes rather than flashy demos.
