Beyond that, interactive learning experiences now reach 18 million weekly users across more than 250 topics, from integrals to mitosis, and a pronunciation tool supports 61 languages. Parental controls let families set quiet hours, disable voice mode, manage image generation, and receive notifications about serious policy violations linked to violent threats.
For builders and product teams, the takeaway is that teen safety cannot be an afterthought—it requires deliberate product design that puts safety first even when it conflicts with other goals. OpenAI’s collaboration with organizations like the Family Online Safety Institute and violence prevention experts shows that external validation and continuous improvement are essential. The real benchmark is not just protecting teens from harm, but actively designing tools that foster learning, critical thinking, and responsible tech habits.
