New OpenAI Academy courses for the next era of work

Organizations are investing in AI, but the promise of AI only materializes when people know how to apply these tools in their specific work context and turn successful uses into repeatable ways of working. The tension is that many workers lack the practical skills and workflows to go beyond one-off prompting, creating a gap between deployment and tangible value. OpenAI Academy addresses this by treating learning as part of deployment, offering structured training that evolves alongside their models and products.
OpenAI is introducing three new courses on OpenAI Academy: AI Foundations, Applied AI Foundations, and Agents and Workflows. AI Foundations covers core concepts like prompting, context, output review, and responsible use for everyday tasks. Applied AI Foundations teaches how to turn prompts into structured, repeatable workflows, balancing quality, speed, and cost. Agents and Workflows focuses on directing agent-assisted work, defining inputs, outputs, and human oversight. These courses are built with partners including BCG, Accenture, and BBVA to ensure practical, hands-on learning that applies to real organizational work.
For builders and technical leaders, the takeaway is that OpenAI Academy provides a consistent learning standard grounded in the actual tools employees use. Learners earn certificates for completion, helping organizations recognize progress and spur internal adoption. The curriculum will update as models and safety practices evolve, making it a living resource rather than a static tutorial. This approach shortens the distance between deployment and value by systematically building workforce fluency across full organizations.
